On 4th February 2022, Fight the Fakes will join World Cancer Day to create a future without cancer and raise awareness about the threat of falsified medicines for cancer care! The World Health Organisation reported falsified versions of all categories of medicines, from generics to innovative medicines for cancer, and sadly such reports continue to surface. New study alerts to the risk of poor quality medicines used to prevent and treat cardiovascular disease

The recently published ‘The quality of medical products for cardiovascular diseases: a gap in global cardiac care’ paper, shows that one fifth of medicines reported as sampled in the literature were substandard or falsified. The research was carried out by experts from the MORU Tropical Health Network together with IDDO scientists. Fight the Fakes Alliance gains official “Observer” status at the Medicrime Convention Committee of the Parties

During the 5th plenary session of the Medicrime Committee that took place on 1 December 2021, the Committee of the Parties voted in favour of granting the official status of Observer to the Fight the Fakes Alliance. The Medicrime Convention, drafted by the Council of Europe, constitutes the first binding international instrument in the criminal law field that focuses on the criminal act of counterfeiting medical products and other crimes that threaten public health.
