Today marks the first anniversary of Fight the Fakes campaign!
Fight the Fakes works to raise awareness of the dangers of fake medicines, sharing the stories of those who have been impacted by fake medicines and those who are working to put a stop to this crime against patients.
Fake medicines present a serious threat to global health, and can lead to further illness, disability and even death. Fake medicines also increase worldwide resistance to leading treatments for infectious diseases, reducing the potency of existing antimalarials, antibiotics and other life-saving medicines.
This year, Fight the Fakes has grown to 27 partners, representing doctors, nurses, pharmacists, disease-specific organisations and research institutes, NGOs and foundations, regulators, the research-based and generics pharmaceutical industry, wholesalers, and coalitions for patient safety and citizen’s activism. Fight the Fakes partners work towards a global coordinated approach against fake medicines, across the entire medicines supply-chain.
To all supporters of the campaign’s first year: thank you for joining us in speaking up and spreading the word about fake medicines!
