We are proud to announce Alliance for Safe Online Pharmacies (ASOP), Alliance for Safe Online Pharmacy in the EU (ASOP EU) and the Center for Safe Internet Pharmacies (CSIP) as new partners of the Fight the Fakes campaign!
The Internet provides an anonymous platform to sell fake medicines to the public, representing a new and challenging trend in the fight against this criminal activity. The WHO estimates that half of all medicines purchased online from a site that does not display a physical address are fake.
Fighting back are our new partners: ASOP, a nonprofit organization that seeks to protect patient safety globally and ensure patient access to safe and legitimate online pharmacies, ASOP EU, a multi-stakeholder coalition with the specific objective of making the internet a safe place to buy medicines within the EU and CSIP, made up of a dozen internet and e-commerce organisations promoting and encouraging safe online pharmacies through education.
“We all must work together to combat fake medicines, in particular illegal online drug sellers as the problem is too big, too lucrative for criminals and too complex for anyone to be able to stop it alone. ASOP is proud to join Fight the Fakes as we are committed to working with others in order to protect patients globally,” said Libby Baney, Executive Director of ASOP.
