In the realm of patient advocacy and global healthcare, there shone a beacon of hope and dedication—Kawaldip Sehmi, the esteemed CEO of IAPO. His unwavering commitment to patient safety and relentless pursuit of excellence left an indelible mark on the fight against substandard and falsified medicines. As a cancer survivor, his advocacy was fuelled by personal experiences, making him a compassionate patient advocate.

He was one of the founding members of the Fight the Fakes Alliance, and his dedication to this cause was unwavering. Together, we participated in events, developed campaigns for patient safety, and spoke in the media about the grave issue of substandard and falsified medicines, keeping patients safe. His commitment to this partnership will be deeply missed.

During his tenure at IAPO, Kawaldip led progressive discussions on patient partnerships for stronger health systems and focused on regulatory affairs in Africa and personalised cancer care in the Eastern Mediterranean Region. The patient perspective was always at the forefront of his efforts.

Kawaldip’s brilliance and zest for life inspired all who knew him. His boundless creativity and forward-thinking ideas enriched every conversation he participated in.

As we bid farewell, we extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the global patient community. Kawaldip’s legacy as a champion, mentor, and dear friend will forever be cherished. Let us honour his memory by continuing his vital work—advocating for patient-centered healthcare worldwide. Though he may be gone, his influence will endure through generations of patient advocates.
