100,000 people could die from using fake drugs this year

The World Health Organisation says dangerous counterfeit copies of medicines are being bought by people who think they are buying treatments for diseases like malaria, or cancer.

Fake drugs sold by criminals kill people in rich countries, but many more poor people are dying in Africa.

Thomas Cueni, the director general of IFPMA, the body that represents the world’s pharmaceutical companies, has been telling the BBC’s Russell Padmore about the challenge of dealing with the problem.
