Check out the Fight the Fakes statement!

In light of the Falsified Medicines Directive (FMD) having entered into its operational phase on February 9 (read our previous FTF update here), the MEP José Inácio Faria (EPP, Portugal) in collaboration with the European Alliance for Access to Safe Medicines (EAASM) hosted a roundtable discussion with the topic “Improving patient safety with the FMD in the hospital pharmacy, status of implementation” in the European Parliament in Brussels on February 19 and Fight the Fakes was there!

The discussion focused around the challenges and practical solutions to a successful implementation of the FMD’s safety features in the hospital environment. The two-hour event included presentations from our partner the European Medicines Verification Organisation (EMVO), the Finnish Medicines Verification Organisation (FiMVO), Agnès Mathieu-Mendes, the Deputy Head of the Unit on the quality, safety and innovation of medicinal products, DG SANTE (EU Commission), and Mike Isles, the Executive Director of EEASM and partner ASOP EU, among others. The presentations were followed by an open debate on how to maximise the sharing of best practices!

Fight the Fakes partner from the University College of London, School of Pharmacy was also represented at the event. Oksana Pyzik, Senior Teaching Fellow and Global Engagement Lead at UCL School of Pharmacy, and founder of UCL Fights Fakes, delivered  a call to action supported by the UCL youth delegation to shine an even brighter light on this global health threat.
