Today the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI)  holds a conference on the SAVEmed Project, a research collaboration to add anti-counterfeiting and track & trace technology to the packaging of medical products.

SAVEmed, funding by the European Union, works to tackle the growing threat of fake medicines to consumers within the EU.

The conference is held in Bucharest and attended by officials of UNICRI, the Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA) and representatives from the public and private sectors.

With insight to experience gained in other EU countries, the attendees are working to set up an anti-counterfeit medicines stakeholders’ group in Romania.
