Our Fight the Fakes partner the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations (IFPMA) hosted this week with the Taiwan Food and Drugs Administration (TFDA) a workshop on fake medicines in the margins of the 8th Asian Regulatory Conference (ARC) in Chinese Taipei.

An absent or weak national medicines regulatory system is mentioned by the World Health Organization as one factor encouraging counterfeiting of medicines, alongside a lack of appropriate medicine legislation and weak enforcement.

In this context, the IFPMA-TFDA workshop provided a venue to discuss best practices against fake medicines addressing in particular current regulatory landscape and initiatives, supply chain integrity, practices and technologies for prevention, detection, control and monitoring of fake medicines and collaboration within and between countries. The workshop panelists ranged from national regulatory authorities (Taiwan, Malaysia, Italy), regional organisations (APEC, European Union, Council of Europe), wholesalers, healthcare professionals, NGOs (GS1, RX360, PSM India) and the pharmaceutical industry. Audience members included regulatory affairs professionals, representatives of regulatory authorities, NGOs, other professionals involved in fighting fake medicines, and media.

Thanks to expert contributors and audience members for their commitment to fighting fake medicines!

Fight the Fakes also welcomed friends and partners to an evening reception on February 5th to share experiences and share with stakeholders in Taiwan the activities of the campaign.
