The Generic Pharmaceutical Association (GPhA) is the USA’s leading trade association for manufacturers and distributors of generic prescription drugs, manufacturers of bulk active pharmaceutical chemicals, and suppliers of other goods and services to the generic industry.
Generic pharmaceuticals fill 84 percent of the prescriptions dispensed in the U.S. but consume just 27 percent of the total drug spending, saving the health system nearly $200 billion annually. Globally, generics account for nearly 30% of the $1 trillion pharmaceuticals market and up to 48% of prescriptions dispensed. GPhA members operate in more than 140 countries.
GPhA’s core purpose is to improve the lives of consumers by providing timely access to affordable pharmaceuticals. Toward this end, GPhA advances the interests of our member companies through initiatives in the scientific, regulatory, federal and state forums, international agencies, and in the public affairs arena.
GPhA members manufacture the vast majority of all affordable pharmaceuticals dispensed in the United States. Our products are used in nearly four billion prescriptions every year.
