Because fake medicines put patients at risk of further illness, disability or even death

Fake medicines may contain the wrong ingredients, the wrong dose, no active ingredients at all or dangerous substances. They can threaten patient safety by, at best, having no therapeutic benefits and causing no improvement to a patient’s condition. At worst they can be responsible for an added burden of disease or even death. Fake tuberculosis and malaria drugs alone are estimated to kill 700,000 people a year*.
